Miry’s List, an organization based out of Southern California, helps refugee families get settled in their new homes. In August, while the U.S. troops were in the process of withdrawing from Afghanistan, Miry’s List helped five times the number of families the month previous. Next year, the prediction is they will be assisting over 300 families to settle in Southern California. Kiki Nagy, a volunteer for the organization, asked to host a family for their first Thanksgiving meal. She was connected with Wahidullah Asghary and his family, whom she had never met. She fixed turkey, spinach, potatoes, and cranberry sauce. She also made a halal lamb to make the family more comfortable with something they were familiar with.
America is filled with friendly, welcoming people who want to help others enjoy their country. Contact ABD Göç Hizmetleri today for information about the required visa to live and work in the US.
Nagy’s friend, Tam Van Tran, was also at the Thanksgiving feast and could relate to what the Asghary family was going through. He was a refugee from Vietnam in 1975. The photo of the Afghans and the cargo planes, reminded him of his experience. Tran escaped his homeland without his parents and was welcomed by a foster family in the United States. Nagy hopes the children realize tolerance in the US is possible and that people from America are generous and have good hearts.
